The popular restaurant chain, Olive Garden, is in the middle of a firestorm of bad publicity.

You’ve likely heard the story of the 2-year-old boy that they served alcohol to instead of orange juice.  But, there’s another story circulating in social media that is extremely damaging to Olive Garden.

In today’s video blog post, I walk you through the firestorm surrounding Olive Garden and how they are, or better said, are NOT using social media to respond to the bad press.

Watch the video to see what Olive Garden can teach us about how not to handle social media.

As I said in the video, it’s critical that social media is a major part of every company’s culture. When it is then you’ll be fully prepared to respond when a firestorm hits your company.

And, you’ll have built a following of fans and friends on social media sites who you can quickly mobilize to defend your reputation.

The time will come when you’ll need to use social tools for defensive purposes. The key is implementing your social media strategy now so you’ll be ready.

UPDATE: Story about alleged Tuscan cooking school fraud now going mainstream. Huffington Post has picked it up since I made the video.
